Whether you climb sport, trad or boulder, you’ll never forget a beta again.
Start with a photo of the wall. Add the holds. Set the moves in order. Broken Crimp turns them into a beta map you can go over in your head, follow at the crag, or send to a friend.
Draw the climb, not a description of it
Place holds on a photo of the real wall, from a catalogue of 37 types: crimps, jugs, slopers, pockets and volumes, plus the bolts, cams and nuts a trad line runs on. Give them nicknames. Add section dividers where the climb changes character.
Record every move
Say which hand or foot goes where, and in what order. Mark two limbs moving at once. Note a re-grip, a heel hook, a kneebar, a drop knee, a bat hang. Then play the sequence back and watch it climb.
A climber your own size
The figure on the wall is drawn to a height you set for each beta: tap the climber and drag. It is not only cosmetic. A limb the sequence stretches beyond its own reach lets go of the wall, so your height decides which hands and feet the app still shows on the holds. Pin one down if you want it to stay.
Remember the details that matter
Attach a close-up photo to a single hold, so you can see the exact edge you need. Record a voice note while it’s fresh. Write down what went wrong last time.
Find it again
Search your climbs by name, by the name of a beta, by a note you wrote, or by what you called a hold. Filter by boulder, sport or trad, and sort by when you last changed a climb or when you added it.
Share it
Send a climb to a friend as a file they can open in their own app. Export a PDF to print out, a video of the sequence to send, or a plain list of the moves to paste into a message. Back up everything to a single file you keep yourself.
Works where you climb
No signal at the crag, no problem. Broken Crimp works entirely offline, and your climbs, photos and voice notes stay on your phone. We run no servers and never receive a copy of your data.

Free, with ads
Broken Crimp is free, and ads are what pay for it. There is a banner under the climb list, and one full-screen ad after you export a beta.
There are no ads while you are drawing holds, building a beta, or reading one at the crag — and none when you open the app or open a climb.
